What Google Ads costs in Slovakia: budget, cost per click, what you pay for
The usual answer to "what does advertising cost" is "it depends". True, and completely useless — you cannot plan a budget from it or tell whether you are overpaying.
Below: what the sum is made of, what counts as normal in Slovakia, and how to check in one evening whether what is already running pays for itself.

What the sum is actually made of
There are three costs, not one, and confusing them is expensive.
1. Budget — the money that goes to Google. You pay for clicks, not impressions. It is charged only when someone reaches your site.
2. Setup work. One-off: campaign structure, keywords, negative keywords, ads, conversion tracking.
3. Management. Monthly: search terms reports, clearing out rubbish, adjusting bids, testing ads.
A common beginner's mistake is paying only for the first. A campaign without management degrades: the negative keyword list stops growing, and within a couple of months a noticeable share of the budget goes on queries you do not want.
Cost per click: why it is what it is
Google has no fixed price. There is an auction, and two multipliers enter it.
Competitors' bids. The more bidders on the same query, the more expensive.
Quality Score — a rating from 1 to 10 of how well your ad and landing page match the query. And here is the interesting part: with a high Quality Score you pay less than a competitor for the same position.
It is made up of:
- expected click-through rate
- how well the ad matches the query
- landing page quality — content, speed, usability on mobile
Which leads to the practical conclusion that saves more than any bid haggling: the page your advertising points at affects your cost per click. A slow site with general information instead of the specific service is paid for twice — in low conversion and in an inflated click price.

Rough figures for Slovakia
Exact values depend on the niche, but the order of magnitude is this:
| Query type | Rough cost per click |
|---|---|
| Local services, narrow queries | 0.30–0.80 € |
| Business services in Bratislava | 0.60–1.50 € |
| Competitive niches (law, finance, property) | from 2 € |
| Brand queries (your own name) | usually cents |
How to get the exact figure for your own words without spending anything: the Keyword Planner inside Google Ads. It shows search volume and a bid range for Slovakia before launch, free.
What a start needs
Work backwards from the enquiry, not from the budget.
Take a service in Bratislava: a click at 0.60 €, one in twenty visitors leaves an enquiry — so a contact costs about 12 €. To judge whether that pays, you need 20–30 contacts: 240–360 € purely on gathering statistics.
Hence the working figure — 10–15 € a day for one service in one city. At 5 € a day the data takes three times as long, and you pay throughout without grounds to decide.
The first rule of allocation: do not spread it thin. A small budget across all of Slovakia and six services produces neither enquiries nor statistics. One service, one city, then expand.
What setup and management cost
Three models exist on the Slovak market:
A percentage of budget — usually 10–20 %. Logical at large budgets, but at 400 € a month an agency receives 40–80 € and physically cannot give the campaign attention.
A fixed monthly fee — clear and predictable.
An hourly rate. That is how I work: an hourly rate of 25 €, with a full campaign launch starting at roughly 1,000 €. The advertising budget is separate — you pay that directly to Google or Meta from your own account. Details on the advertising service page.
What to ask before signing, whichever model applies:
- Who owns the Google Ads account? It should be you. If an agency runs you from their account, parting company means losing all the accumulated statistics — which is the campaign's main asset.
- Who sets up conversion tracking, and how? Without it the work cannot be evaluated.
- What does management include? A specific list of actions, not "optimisation".
Do you know how many enquiries the site actually brought?
I set up GA4, Tag Manager and conversion tracking so the numbers match reality.
Hidden costs nobody warns you about
The first month is more expensive. Until the negative keyword list is built, part of the budget goes on irrelevant clicks. That is not the contractor's error but the unavoidable price of the campaign learning — it still has to be budgeted for.
Measurement. Without conversions configured properly the algorithm has nothing to optimise on and spends on the cheapest clicks. How it works — configuring GA4.
Consent Mode v2. Since March 2024 Google does not accept EU data for remarketing and conversion modelling without a consent signal. In practice: the advertising brings enquiries while the reports show a loss, and it gets switched off. Analysis — the cookie banner in 2026.
The landing page. If it does not exist, it has to be built. Advertising pointed at the home page instead of the service page is the most common cause of an expensive enquiry.
How to tell whether it pays
Three numbers; everything else is detail:
- Cost per enquiry = spent ÷ number of contacts.
- Share of enquiries that became clients. Counted by hand, but without it the first number means nothing.
- Cost per client = the first divided by the second.
An example. You spent 400 €, received 30 contacts → 13.3 € per enquiry. Six became clients → a client cost 66 €. If your average project is 3,500 €, the question is not whether it pays but why the budget is still 400.
The reverse happens too: a client costs 300 € and brings in 400. Then the problem is not the advertising but the margin — and the budget must not go up.
When not to launch advertising
Plainly, because it saves money:
- The site is not ready. Slow, no page for the specific service, forms that do not work — advertising becomes a paid exit.
- Measurement is not set up. You will not learn the result and cannot make a decision.
- No reserve for 2–3 months. A campaign switched off after two weeks is money spent teaching an algorithm you never used.
- There is no search demand. If the Planner shows single-digit monthly volumes for your topic, the budget belongs in other channels — where traffic comes from.
If you need help
I set up campaigns with conversion tracking that works, build the negative keyword list and show what an enquiry actually costs. The account is registered to you — the statistics stay yours whatever happens next.
I have lived in Slovakia for over ten years, work as a Slovak s.r.o. and issue a faktúra with an IČO you can put through your books.
